Tell U.S. Senators to ratify the CRPD!

Support the Deaf-friendly treaty!
·         A new international treaty, called Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), recognizes the inclusion of sign language and deaf culture in society.
·         More than 135+ countries have ratified the CRPD since 2006— but NOT the U.S.!
·         More than 700 U.S. organizations want to change that. These include the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and the U.S. International Council on Disabilities (USICD).
·         We need YOUR help to make it happen.
·         Organizations opposed to international treaties are using misinformation to fight against the CRPD. You can help us fight back!

Tell Senators to ratify the CRPD!
·         Find contact information for all 100 U.S. Senators at http://bit.ly/ReachSenators. Call or email Senators, or visit their office!
·         Tell them, “Please vote ‘yes’ to ratify the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities!”
·         Need more ideas what to say? Try these resources: http://bit.ly/TellSenators
Stay involved
·         Each stage of the ratification process will be a new opportunity to communicate with U.S. Senators about the CRPD.  Please be ready!  Sign up for USICD’s CRPD action alert list at http://usicd.org/index.cfm/crpdupdates.
·         Learn more about deaf and hard of hearing community involvement with the CRPD campaign:  http://bit.ly/DeafCRPD.
·         More CRPD resources at http://disabilitytreaty.org and at http://bit.ly/Resources4CRPD.

Reblogging, because now this is more urgent than ever.  The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has scheduled two hearings, on Nov. 5 and 12th, 2013, which is a good step forward.  However, people opposed to the CRPD are still making more phone calls to Senators than people who support the treaty.  Even though we far outnumber them in people! This is hurting our cause.  We really have to step up our game.  We need to drown Senators in an ocean of phone calls and a cascading waterfall of emails.  Because if we don’t, we could end up losing this battle.  Please don’t allow that to happen.
You know and I know that the deaf community is powerful!  Let’s show that power to Senators!  Showing we have the power to win the CRPD will help us when we go on to battle other issues such as captions in movie theaters, or improved enforcement of our right to communication access at doctor’s offices.
People will now find great tools for advocates at the CRPD Action Center at http://disabilitytreaty.org.  You can sign a petition there, and you can send an email to all the members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee with a few taps of a button, or send Twitter messages to them.  You also will find a script to guide you through phone calls to Senator offices.
You also will find an updated message to circulate within the deaf community at http://andreashettle.tumblr.com/post/65516082629/urgent-support-crpd-deaf-friendly-disability
