The Philippines have been absolutely devastated by Typhoon Haiyan, one of the world’s largest strongest tropical cyclones to date. Over 1,000 people are dead, and more are injured, with estimates rising. According to the United Nations World Food Programme, these people are in desperate need of food, as well as other assistance. They need water that isn’t contaminated. If you have even a small amount of money to give, it can help. All of these people are dealing with heavy loss, from friends, to homes, to family members— if we take some of the burden off of them by helping provide food, it would help ease their worries just that little bit more.

Linked here is a list of ways you can help: x. As always, before you donate, make sure you check that the people you are donating to are legitimate before you give out personal information! If you don’t find something in the list, do some research and donate through your chosen organization.

This storm is still raging on, scheduled to hit Vietnam today at 1800. Keep your positive thoughts and prayers focused on all of these people and their safety.

I lost my cousins and aunt to this storm…

If you could do anything to help my people, please do. The last months had been bad enough for us. Before Yolanda (the typhoon’s local name here in Philippine) a monsoon called Habagat caused many landslides and flash floods that affected the livelihood of many Filipinos. Also, I have seen actual footage of hungry and desperate people from one of the most devastated areas and it terrifies me because it’s like a scene from a post-apocalyptic film.

Update: Tacloban, Philippines (CNN) — No food. No water. Houses and buildings torn to pieces. Bodies scattered on the streets. Hospitals overrun with patients. Medical supplies running out.

As Typhoon Haiyan barreled across the South China Sea on Sunday, getting set to bring more destruction to Vietnam, many Filipinos grappled with devastation on a level they’d never seen before.

The Philippine Red Cross estimated at least 1,200 people were killed by Haiyan, but the full death toll could be significantly higher as officials make their way to remote, nearly inaccessible places pummeled by the storm.

Tacloban Mayor Alfred Romualdez told CNN it is “entirely possible” that 10,000 people may have died in the storm in Leyte province.(x)
