When my health will let me, I’m actually considering going back and trying for history degrees. That might be one way to get some kind of career going out of special interests.

Especially since the falling back on writing idea has not worked out as well as everybody used to assume. Still…

I know what you mean about not knowing what you’re interested in the first time around. The two majors I declared (psychology and math) were entirely other people’s ideas, I didn’t have much interest in them. But then, back then I was too passive to act on my own ideas most of the time. (And the first major I didn’t even really take more than one class in the subject. The second one, after declaring, I didn’t even make it to class. So the actual classes I was taking bore little resemblance to the majors I was supposedly interested in.)
