What year is this? 1997?

Sue, you can’t have no baby. You are old as a hill. You ain’t gonna give birth to no child; you gonna give birth to a grandchild. You gonna get in them stirrups, and you gonna push and push, and a full-grown adult gonna pop out with a briefcase and a job talking on a cellphone. What you need to do is start praying that you give birth to a child that likes to eat sand, cause that’s all that’s coming out of them old, wrinkly boobs.

I have a feeling that question had to do with safety. And some types of institutions. And if there were ways of communicating with the world outside.

I think it’s a legit thing to ponder. And ask.

I know I go to a Community College, but it’s a pretty well known and large community college and it does not have free wifi. So I guess that’s why I didn’t find this question so odd. Wifi is not a given. I mean, meta and all that, but just from a real life perspective, this was not a dumb question or a sign that Sue is old.

You guys know that one of the things that sheltered workshops and like, institutions do is cut off communications right?

Like, knowing whether they have wifi is a legitimate safety concern- and not if the students there have wifi, but if students like BECKY would get to use it.

Like, they changed Jenny Hatch’s facebook password so she couldn’t use it. It’s a ~thing~

Glee showed a good program, but guys- I assure you that you have no idea how bad a bad program could have been.

I visit these places to do peer education, and I can’t tell you how many places don’t give out their wifi pass code to the people they serve- I end up being able to get it because I’m coming in to teach stuff, and they can’t wrap their heads around the people they serve being able to do what I- or what some of my co-workers, some of whom do go to sheltered workshops and day programs in their own area- do. It’s pretty ridiculous.

Yeah I once went to a rec program where they had wifi and they wouldn’t let me have it even though typing is my only means of communication and all they had was telephones other than that. And we couldn’t use the telephones either without permission. One time I had a medical emergency and they still had to DELIBERATE FOR TWO HOURS about whether I could use a phone, then THEY determined who I called (nobody that could actually help) and THEY determined what was said on the phone (and when I interrupted, they made ME the problem) and THEY determined everything else, and when I asked for wifi they acted like I was impudent and horrible. Actually the whole time they acted like I was impudent and horrible for acting like I had a RIGHT to communicate with the outside world. And that’s only the beginning, I don’t have the stomach to tell you everything else that happened there.

And yes, it was an institution. I don’t care that it was considered a rec program, it was still one of the most institutional places I’ve seen “on the outside” ever. And we were totally cut off from the world, and we were not allowed to make contact, and unable to run away and find the real world because it was too far away.
