daily reminder not to reblog missing people posts unless you actually know who the person in the photo is and that they really are missing, there are shitheads out there who look for people hiding from them. an abusive husband found his wife and child through such a post. they were under protected identity but he found them through a missing person post online.

And not a missing person thing exactly, but I was trying to avoid a stalker and he posted pictures of me online with a huge page of search engine bait with my name on it, saying “If you’ve seen her, tell me where she is”.  My dad’s cousin saw it and contacted him.  When I put up a no-contact notice so people wouldn’t make that mistake again, he threatened to sue me, although I ignored it because no-contact notices are perfectly legal.

I totally believe people do this to stalk each other, it would have been so easy for him to pull something like that.  I wasn’t technically “in hiding” but I’d taken steps to conceal my whereabouts from him.  He tried many, many different ways of finding me, not just that one.  And I saw he did it to lots of women online too, some of whom also had no-contact notices up.  The day he threatened to sue me, I saw at least one of those no-contact notices disappear.  She must have gotten a threat too.  And all she said was “I used to know him, I don’t anymore, I don’t want to.”  She said it because he had her name and pictures up on his website with the same note next to it that was next to mine.
