Just had a minor aspiration (of stomach contents, due to gastroparesis).
First time since I instituted the drainage bag seven months ago.
Still a good track record overall for the tube and drainage bag, compared to without. And this was a minor aspiration. I’ll ask my pulmonologist in the morning if I need prophylactic antibiotics or not. I doubt I do.
Still, it reminds me every time:
…My lifespan is not entirely in my hands.
…Be careful, because any day can be your last. And not just for people who are precariously ill. Death is closer to you than you think.
…If you accept these things, truly accept them, not just acknowledge them, then you’re likely to be happier with life.
…Everything can end, at any time.
But I’m not expecting any ending, here. I’m expecting that this will barely even qualify as an aspiration, and that I may not even get infected.
