Hufflepuffs identify with people in crisis a bit too strongly and sometimes don’t have good boundaries about offering support vs taking over.
Also, Hufflepuffs identify too much with the underdog, and can get taken in by someone posing as the underdog.
As in, if a bully starts bullying someone and then claims to be their victim.
This has happened to me. As in, a bully posed as the victim of a situation and I jumped in and comforted and defended her without realizing I was hurting someone who had done no wrong.
And then she turned on me and I became one of her worst victims. And she posed as the underdog who was being somehow hurt by me (she provided an entire ridiculous backstory, but people who didn’t know me didn’t know it was ridiculous unless they had an ear well-tuned for that kind of BS). And then a lot of people who really were, like me, Hufflepuff types in real life got taken in by it and took her side and comforted her and put up with the fact that she often became abusive to them too, and… etc.
And she knew it, and she played into this weakness of ours. She hurt a lot of people. She figured out how to use a group of people who were very community-oriented, to destroy or damage some people’s ties to communities we very much needed, and to destroy any community she touched, if she could get away with it enough. It was awful.
And I could totally see that happening in Harry Potter. In fact similar things kind of did happen, a lot of times, including when people thought Harry was the Heir of Slytherin. And when people thought he was an attention-seeking delusional liar.
Also as I’ve noted before, loyalty can be as much a curse as a blessing depending on how it’s used.
