My wand arrived today! It’s wonderful. It’s made out of ebony, just like on Pottermore. It has a groove that my thumb fits right into. And you can’t see it up close in this picture, but it’s gorgeous smooth wood that’s just perfect. It came with instructions, apparently you have to rub it with a cloth and a drop of oil (the web suggests pure lemon oil, with no alcohol or petroleum) into it now and then.
It feels really nice in my hand. It’s well-balanced. And I’ve always had an affinity with ebony, so I was really surprised it turned up as my wood on Pottermore. Especially since they use things as arbitrary as eye color to determine your wand wood. Ebony has always been one of my favorite woods ever. It has a feeling of intense, layered depth to it that not all woods have. I’m going to enjoy this wand for a long time.
I took the above picture for the sidebar of this blog, I’d been meaning to get a photo of myself up there, but I never got around to it. Note the tiny Hufflepuff pin on my belt. And the cat watching me wave my wand around. I don’t feel quite as silly as I expected, but I still had to keep from giggling while my photo was being taken.
So this is me, with my wand, and my cat! (And my feeding tube is showing. I wonder how wizards handle feeding tubes. It would be far more interesting to me if they did have to deal with them, rather than having some instant magic solution.)
