➸ A life cut short

Your story on the murder of 52-year-old Mickey Liposchok by his father focused almost completely on the murderer and barely said anything about the victim (“Father, Disabled Son Found Dead; Friends Call Killing an ‘Act of Love,’ ” Dec. 18). The fact that Mickey Liposchok was intellectually disabled does not diminish the horrible nature of this crime: His life was tragically cut short.

Due to the slanted nature of the reporting, we know nothing about Mickey except that he was “kept upstairs” when his neighbor came over. Was he happy? Did he enjoy activities? What was important to him? We do not know because the reporting said only that killing him, according to one friend, was “an act of love.”

If Mickey were not disabled, or perhaps missing an arm or leg, the reporters would not let the “act of love” explanation go unchallenged. His intellectual disability does not make him any less of a person.
