Fandom is kinder to bad guys than heroes

wackyshenanigans:

Merope Gaunt had a traumatic childhood but that doesn’t change the fact she was a rapist, yet people forgive her.

Severus Snape had a traumatic childhood but that doesn’t change the fact he emotionally abused vulnerable children for no reason and caused Remus Lupin to become homeless, yet people forgive him.

Harry Potter had a traumatic childhood and spent his teenage years surviving repeated murder attempts but he’s not allowed to be a little bit angsty about it.

I actually was glad that Harry ended up angsty and messed up in OotP. He had always seemed unusually well adjusted for a kid who was locked in a closet most of his life. I was glad he started showing some realistic signs of trauma, even if it made him prickly and difficult to be around.
