Just in case anyone needed a refresher that fat hatred is not about concern for health. It’s about disgust, fear of death, and power dynamics. It is about the deep human need to set people apart, preferably based on a visible trait, and to degrade them. “You can’t hate people for their own good.”

I’m actually really curious as to why this person sounds so angry and personally offended. Did a gang of fat bandits kill their family and burn down their village?

I’ll remind people again of the fact that I had a conversation with someone who swore that she was only concerned with fat people’s health.  She said that the problem was that fat people had decided the idea of ‘fat people can still be healthy’ was integral to our self-esteem, and that therefore we were just letting our emotions get in the way of our appreciation of the realities of the situation.

Then after a long conversation, she finally admitted that her real problem was that fat people had to touch her on public transit, and since it was “not feasible” that public transit make bigger seats (oh, really?  just like disability access isn’t feasible, according to the same person, I believe), then fat people should just all lose weight so she wouldn’t have to touch us.  Dead serious.  So it was really her, whose emotional reactions to the idea of fat people were getting in the way.
