➸ Ableism Outside of Tumblr
ageism and ableism are words that i have only ever seen on tumblr
well depending on where you live ‘disablism’ might be the term used
but otherwise yes these forms of oppression are very much underlooked and unless you experience them on a daily basis…
I believe the term ableism was coined in the eighties, if not before. I first heard of it in the early nineties, in an article I read. Even if the article was one of those “now PC is going too far” BS things. Back then they didn’t have tumblr to blame.
I first heard of ageism in the nineties too.
(I was born in 1980, so… yeah.)
