The adrenal problems
So I was roughly right about the way I read my test results:
1. My cortisol is low.
2. My ACTH is low.
3. Given an infusion of ACTH, my cortisol goes up.
This means that my adrenal glands work, and the problem is either in the pituitary gland or maybe the hypothalamus, but they said the pituitary gland is more likely. So if it’s adrenal insufficiency it would be secondary or tertiary adrenal insufficiency, not primary. Probably secondary.
They won’t know how to treat it until they figure out what’s wrong. So I’m going to get an MRI of my head really soon so they can check out my pituitary gland.
They didn’t really want to speculate about what might be wrong until they do further testing.
Honestly I’m just relieved they found something. Whether the end result is something easy to treat or something terrible, at least I'll know.
