Health Update

Friday morning I saw that my ACTH stimulation test results were available online so I called my doctor’s office to make an appointment to go over all my test results. Surprisingly, they had an opening that day that I was able to make. I was officially diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency due to an unknown cause. My doctor said I had the lowest numbers he’s seen. My Addison’s Disease antibodies were negative. His theory is that it’s due to a problem with my pituitary gland. A few months ago I had a MRI of my brain ordered for a different doctor, who hasn’t sent the results to my endocrinologist yet. I’ve already been told that everything looked normal though. I’m not sure what the next step will be to figure out the cause if my endocrinologist doesn’t see anything once he gets the MRI. My thyroid levels still aren’t managed so he increased my T4 and lowered my T3 to balance it out because he thinks 50 mcg is going to be too much T4 for me. I completely forgot to get a copy of my labs while I was there so I didn’t get to look over my other levels and he didn’t mention them. I’m planning on picking up a copy when I go back into the city this week.

I picked out a really pretty medical alert bracelet. I had no idea how expensive they were! I’m really not looking forward to having to ask for help to pay for it.

Some medical alert bracelets are more expensive than others.  If you just want one that says “adrenal insufficiency” without further information, you can find various different kinds on Google Shopping ranging from about $5-$25.  I got one I liked on eBay for about $20, it should be arriving tomorrow (I was just diagnosed recently too).  That may be expensive for you (it was for me) but it’s not as expensive as getting something custom engraved, or getting a Medic Alert subscription.
