So I got some more information today.
Basically, the information I got through my hospital’s online service isn’t as detailed as the information the doctors get. And my cortisol level in both tests was below one, and in fact too low to measure. And my ACTH level was likewise too low to measure. So they’re saying I have pretty severe adrenal insufficiency, even though I haven’t landed in the ICU yet or anything.
And they’re saying it’s either secondary adrenal insufficiency, or some weird mix of secondary and primary. Because there’s definitely something wrong with my pituitary gland, especially since in a situation like this it ought to be overproducing ACTH, not underproducing it. But my adrenal gland is also not working well enough in response to artificial ACTH stimulation. So neither part is working well.
My doctor was as excited by my progress as I am, and watching his face when I did a bunch of jumping jacks was worth a lot.
