Holy crap so apparently, my “loss of flexibility” in my legs was actually more like I’d gained some weight and my leg wouldn’t move past my belly or… something.  When I weighed upwards of 200 pounds I could only stick my foot on top of my head but not behind it. Now that I’ve (involuntarily) lost weight, I can stick my foot completely behind my head like when I was a kid.  And THIS… is why I have to be damn careful with my joints to avoid injuring them.  They’re way too loose.

Funny thing is, when I was a kid, I always heard of what “double jointed” people could do.  And I always went “they’re not double jointed, can do that and I’m not double jointed”.  Joke’s on me.

This is why I thought autism couldn’t be a real thing…

has anyone ever figured out what the deal is between autism and floppy joints? like are they actually correlated or is it just a common comorbid? I’ve had loose ligaments ever since I was a kid, I’m actually super stiff and inflexible these days in terms of muscle limberness but i still sit in ways that make people go “OW” because it actually has nothing to do with flexibility and everything to do with how my joints are constructed

Tony Attwood claims they’re correlated enough that he uses lax joints as part of his screening in diagnosing Asperger’s.  But I don’t always trust him.  I do know a crapload of autistic people who are hypermobile though.
