The paranoia people have about chemicals is seriously messed up. It’s more important to know what the chemical is and why it’s in there. Sure, some processed foods you really don’t want to eat because they have certain chemicals that are in poisons (hello low fat buttery microwave popcorn and anti-freeze). But just because it’s made in a lab doesn’t make it bad, and chemicals are freaking awesome!

I also love the “not more than five ingredients” rule of thumb. That would rule out most homemade bread, even. 0_o

Also people don’t get that even a chemical that seems “like a poison” isn’t necessarily poisonous.  Because a lot of what determines whether something’s a poison is how much of it is in there.  Things aren’t just divided into “poisons” and “safe things” based on what they are, it’s also a matter of how much of it there is.
