some-of-the-patterns:

even conversations about the r-words tend to be really ableist

Like, that poster where it gives a whole CLOUD OF WORDS that are long long long long insult wordswordswords that are polite and academic.

And then it says, “And you chose retarded? Get a dictionary!”

Way to make the opposite of the point you think you’re making.

Because there are people who *really can’t* stop saying retarded and who could never, ever use all the long I-am-smart words.

And you’re using those people to insult others?

Not ok, and not a way to fight ableism.

  9. katisconfused said: almost all the lists have something like “uneducated” or “ignorant” and it makes me want to scream. That is not just disabled people now it’s poor people, poc etc who are more likely to not be able to get good education. THAT SHOULD NOT BE AN INSULT
  10. slashmarks said: and also a lot of the time, the other words they suggest are ALSO insults based off of comparing people to the intellectually disabled (or sometimes mentally ill)
