I took Fey for a walk today.

In her PetPocket.

It’s been ages since I’ve been able to do that.  And this is the first time I’ve ever done it on foot.  We walked to a park down the street.  As usual, she was very unhappy about being put in the bag, and yowled until we got outside.  But as soon as we were outside, the yowling stopped and the curiosity started.  She started sniffing the air, looking around, poking her head out of the bag for longer and longer periods, and when we sat down on a bench in the park, she poked her head out and watched everything while I petted her.

It’s always hard to put her in situations where I know that she’ll like the outcome even though she doesn’t like the steps it takes to get there.  But she really does seem to enjoy going out for walks, so I think the indignity of going into the bag isn’t a price she’d be unwilling to pay.  (Especially since when I get into the habit of taking her out, she indicates whether she wants to go by either running and hiding when I get out the bag, or staying and letting me pick her up.  I assume the staying is when she’s okay with going for a walk, because when she doesn’t want to, she runs under the bed or something.

Anyway, it was way more successful than I expected for her first walk in years.  And I’m looking forward to doing this more often.  She always looks more alert and alive when we go on walks, and in the past, when she comes back, her play afterwards is a lot more active, like she’s acquired all these birds and squirrels and stuff to fuel her imagination.
