Newsflash: if you base your knowledge of disorders and illnesses based on books and classes and then refuse to listen to those who experience the disorder firsthand you need to close your mouth and never open it again

Don’t use SOME people you’ve listened to as your ‘get out of giving a shit free’ card either

We’re all different people with different opinions and experiences, you need to listen to all of us to even get half a clue

I knew this one guy who is not yet working in the psych field but plans to, who outright said that subjective experiences of disorders and illnesses is a waste of time, One of the many reasons I do not speak to him anymore.

Ugh, fucking gross.

I once tried to describe my experiences to a psychologist I was seeing.

He said “When I was younger, I was interested in phenomenology.  But then I realized it was completely meaningless and useless, so I’m not interested anymore.”

To him, “phenomenology” was a fancy word for “my experiences, as I experience them”.  And apparently that doesn’t matter to him.  At all.
