THE FOREST FLOOR

The ground under your feet in a woods is full of interesting colors and textures … and sometimes…

The forest floor is one of the most sacred things to me.  It has growth, death, decay, and rebirth happening constantly.  A couple times, I’ve had spiritual experiences where I felt like I was the forest floor, and I could feel all the living things growing and changing and dying and decaying and growing and changing and dying and decaying inside of me.  (These were not experiences that happened when I was physically in a forest, and I was not expecting them.)  And that makes the forest floor all the more sacred.  It has a depth of meaning that isn’t symbolic, it’s just it is what it is.  I can’t talk about it because the most important parts of any such experience aren’t in the words or the images or anything like that, but in some deep place where there are no words or symbols at all.  But every time I see any picture of a forest floor it reminds me of everything sacred in the world.  And every time I see a time-lapse video of what goes on in the forest floor, it has an intense similarity to those spiritual experiences that have meant so much to me.
