These are the colors I’m using for my current afghan project. This is the first time I’ve picked colors for how well they go with each other, rather than other factors.
It’s Bernat Satin yarn, worsted weight, in the following colors: Silk (off-white), Goldenrod (pumpkin orange), Banana (pale yellow), Sage, and Sable (tan). I may add a pale green edging to the entire afghan when I’m done.
The afghan is pretty simple. It’s going to be a particular granny square that I absolutely love because each level of the square is slightly different than the last, unlike most granny squares, so it never gets too repetitive. And then it’s going to have a border around the edge, that I’ll design myself.
Anne says that these colors match the decor in her house, so I’ll probably send her the afghan when I’m through. Her cats will doubtless love it :-)
BTW, I love this yarn. It’s not too expensive (at least not compared to the wool yarns I was using before, good grief is pure wool expensive), it’s acrylic, but it’s got this sheen to it that’s almost like a pearl or like satin, which I guess is why they call it Bernat Satin. And it’s very soft.
So far I’ve only got one skein of each of these (two of the yellow), and each skein makes about 1.8 granny squares. So I’ll probably need to buy another skein of each, eventually, but I want to wait until I’ve made everything first.
I love having a project to work on. I feel weird without being able to crochet, like my life is missing something. I get unfocused and out of sorts. It brings order and stability to my life, and it focuses me on the real, physical world. I need focus on the physical world in order to stay sane, I think. Otherwise I get too caught up in that foreign word-world and end up feeling lost and disconnected. I try to have at least two or three projects going at a time, so if I can’t do one, I can work on another, and so I have fewer times when I have nothing to do.
For Ravelry members, this is the granny square I’m using: Counterpoint 12" Afghan Block. It’s available for free. It can be worked solid, or in lots of colors at once. I’m doing it solid, and it’s beautiful.
