I didn’t realize that my ‘friends’ were not my friends until I made real friends.

I still remember this terrified feeling I had:  I would be feeling very vulnerable, and I would wait for my new friends to stab me in the gut and twist.  And they not only didn’t do that, they treated me especially gently at those times.

And it was so confusing.
