Oh and that asshole doctor I mentioned in a recent post, from when I was younger?

He wrote in my chart that I was paranoid because I had a Medic-Alert bracelet that told people I was autistic, in case the police picked me up. My mother even told him how many times the police had already picked me up throughout my adolescence and early adulthood. But he said that wearing the…

That doctor sounds absolutely terrible and shouldn’t be allowed to treat patients.

He shouldn’t.

In fact, I wish I could do something towards getting him sanctioned, at minimum, for the crap he pulled on me.  He didn’t just harm me directly, he wrote to other doctors and tried to keep them from treating me for physical conditions, and tried to get them to doubt the diagnoses of doctors who had known me for far longer.  He even doubted the diagnoses of a psychiatrist who had been working with me closely for pretty much my entire teenage years.

He was basically convinced, from meeting and talking to me and my mother exactly once, that I was psychotic and that this explained all of my physical symptoms.  He had a direct and indirect role in bringing me far closer to death than I ever had to get, and giving me a phobia of doctors so severe that I sometimes contemplated suicide the night before a doctor’s appointment, because it seemed better than going and potentially being subjected to more psychiatric ableism.

Luckily, after him I got a medical doctor who told me that my psychiatric problems were between me and my psychiatrist, that she was there to treat my body.  And she found a lot of things that nobody else had bothered to look for because they were so convinced that my (both real and presumed) psych history meant that I couldn’t have any real physical diseases.  When I actually had many real physical diseases, some of them life-threatening before they got caught.
