Oh and that asshole doctor I mentioned in a recent post, from when I was younger?
He wrote in my chart that I was paranoid because I had a Medic-Alert bracelet that told people I was autistic, in case the police picked me up. My mother even told him how many times the police had already picked me up throughout my adolescence and early adulthood. But he said that wearing the bracelet was indulging this paranoid idea that the police were after me or something. Even though, without the bracelet, police had a habit of picking me up and dumping me in the local psych institutions. He also said it was impossible that I had periods when I was unable to communicate in such a situation, because I could communicate fine during the appointment.
And he said this was paranoia even though my mother was there and verified that all of my experiences with police were genuine and rooted in past experiences.
See under: why the *last* thing I want is a medical team where doctors see it as their role to assess both mental and physical health.
Yep. I actively avoid talking about mental health with doctors unless it’s something I know that’s being handled well.
For instance my hospital anxiety is so severe that I have to get lorazepam the entire time I’m in a hospital, or by the second day I’m having nonstop panic attacks. So I have to deal with them about that or things go really bad. But I wish I didn’t have to risk even telling them about that.
