So I definitely have a cold and it’s definitely annoying as hell because that’s what colds do.

But I’m also on double my dose of steroids — which adds up to 1 mg (10 mL) in the morning, 0.5 mg (5 mL) in the evening of dexamethasone. And it’s making all the difference in the world. Like I feel under the weather, but I don’t feel deathly ill the way I used to feel with even a more minor cold…

Not being able to move right because you’re getting a cold is a thing?!

I’m not just imagining that to feel sick or important?!

I guess it must be a thing.  It happens to me, and apparently you.  The reasons may or may not be different, but anything that wears down your stamina can make movement problems come out that wouldn’t otherwise be obvious.  I can’t imagine you’re imagining things to feel sick or important.

You know how it is with no-diagnostic-category-exists things.

It’s a thing for me as well, FWIW. Took me years to figure it out, but when I am coming down with something one of the first indicators tends to be a sense that all types of movement are harder and more confusing.

Oh and when I have a fever I tend to get weirdly chatty and more likely to start pulling obscure vocabulary out of nowhere.

I get a lot more social during fevers too.  I get worried talking about it though, because there are parents out there that have discovered this about autistic children, and think that the solution is to induce fevers in autistic children, or other dangerous nonsense.

I think I get a lot more social, and a lot more verbal (the only times I’ve been able to talk orally in the past ten years were when I was very sick), when I’m sick, sometimes, because when you’re sick your body is trying to make you social so that you will seek out the protection of other members of your (social) species.  Which has nothing to do with autism at all, but that doesn’’t stop some people from drawing dangerous conclusions.
