Goodness, I think I’m going to have to start collecting the most ridiculous appropriation claims on Tumblr.  Definitely in the running:

-Non-Jews using Yiddish words common in American English

-Non-autistic people using social interaction badges at cons

-People with perfect vision wearing fake glasses for fashion

This kind of trivial shit is why we can’t have nice things.

LOL the fake glasses one!!!

(I will admit to being baffled by people doing that, but that’s only because glasses are heavy and kind of hurt your face and I can’t imagine wearing them if you don’t have to, but then there’s a long list of things I can’t fathom doing that lots of people do for fashion. See also: any and all waxing.)

Yes, I’m also puzzled a bit by fake glasses since wearing them for real can be a definite pain at times.  But I’m not actively bothered by it and can’t imagine that any actual glasses-wearer would be.

Don’t think there are too many Jews kvetching about Yiddish slippage in English, either.

During my last few years where I had something close to functional speech, I also had a teacher who said a lot of Yiddish words.  This has resulted in things like “oy”/“oy vey” being one of my few spoken interjections.  Luckily, my Jewish friends just laugh at me, because there’s not much I can do about echolalia.  (Helps that my Jewish friends are mostly autistic?)
