question for forearm crutch users

blitheslife:

I alternate between a cane and a rollator depending on the situation. Because I have joint issues I find that different mobility aids put strain on different joints, but both the cane and the rollator put a lot of strain on my elbows which are my most hyperflexible joints. Do forearm crutches take the pressure off of wrists and elbows? Should I invest in one to replace my cane or two as an alternative to my rollator?

I’ve had some luck with forearm crutches when I needed that kind of support.  I have hypermobile joints and I found them easier than other mobility aids at times.  You should probably try them in a store at some point before getting any, to see how it feels.  But I really like the way they kept my arms and wrists straight, unlike canes or rollators.

Notes:
  1. angryqueercrip answered: my bi-lateral forarm crutches are easier on my wrists and elbows (and my figer joints). ask me about it if you like. :)
  2. holidaysincanada answered: I have EDS and I find using forearm crutches takes pressure off my joints, but I still need to brace them to prevent RSIs & hyperextensions.
