mmkay on functioning labels
aside from the fact they’re fucking ridiculous and pretty shitty and you just shouldn’t use them
when are they ever necessary? you don’t have to introduce yourself like, “I have high-functioning autism” (I’ve seen people do it but why??? why would you, and the…

The one time I sort of understand them is when someone’s trying to come up with a shorthand.

Like I sometimes understand why some autistic people say “Unlike this person, I’m low functioning, and that means they’re totally ignoring this huge set of needs people like me have, because they don’t even imagine that they exist.”

It’s not that I like it when people put it like that.  Especially when they’re making assumptions about the person they’re talking to.  But I do understand it.

(But I really hate functioning labels in general.)
