hey is it a thing for verbal autistics to just lose the ability to talk out of the blue without losing the ability to think in words, read, etc?

i’m currently unable to talk (i said “no” a few times earlier but it was hard) or repeat things said to me and v is getting worried and i don’t know how to explain what’s happening

yes.

Yes it’s extremely common.

In fact, I’d say it was more the rule than the exception.

I don’t believe in verbal and nonverbal autistic people.

I believe in autistic people who are 1% verbal, and 99% verbal, and everything in between.  But 0% and 100%, vanishingly rare.  And most people fall somewhere in the middle.

And you can move to different parts of that at different parts of your life.

Like at my best I was maybe 80% verbal, and now I’m maybe 5% verbal depending on how you define verbal, and the transition between the two was a gradual slide, not a sudden occurrence.
