arctic-hands asked: Hello. You're "Social Lessons I Learned At School" post has stuck in my head to the point I had a nightmare about it (I don't remember specifics but I woke up disturbed and with it on my mind). I have always been a supporter of Right-To-Die, but what you said about doctors not only encouraging suicide, but terminating life support without express consent made me question everything. I would like to know more. Do you have links to specific cases, like the woman who tried to find food as she died?

I’m sorry I gave you nightmares.  The woman who tried to find food as she died, was written up in Mouth Magazine (a disability rights publication), but I couldn’t tell you which issue.  I’d encourage you to research disability rights perspectives on the matter if you’re interested – Not Dead Yet is one organization that has a lot of information, and could direct you to even more if you wrote to them probably.  I’m not trying to convert anyone though, obviously you should come to your own conclusions, but most people are not familiar with disability rights opposition to right-to-die – they usually hear the right-to-die side, and then usually a very religious side opposing the right to die, and then nothing else.  Some disabled people have specific, unique reasons for opposing it that are completely separate from religious reasons.
