nicocoer asked: My state's DD system is really an ID + sometimes autism system. You have to have an IQ testing come out under 75 to get DD services, or you might be able to get on the wait list or grant system for the Bureau of autism services. I've met folks who need those services so they make sure their AAC is drained/forgotten at home when IQ testing comes around. other option is usually medical like nursing home. RE: #actuallyDD :(

That sucks.  States vary a lot.  California there’s ID, autism, epilepsy, CP, and fifth category (weirdly enough, PDDNOS and AS get put under fifth category – I was put under fifth category despite an autism diagnosis because my PDDNOS diagnosis was my earliest diagnosis, but in the actual records they described my diagnosis as autism, it was all really weird), with no IQ requirement for things that aren’t ID.  Vermont there’s ID and autism spectrum, with no IQ requirement for things that aren’t ID.  In Vermont I’m under the category of autism.  It really bothers me that Vermont has nothing for CP or any sort of catch-all category.  I’ve also seen Vermont deliberately fudge testing to disqualify people who more than qualified, many times over, as a cost-saving measure.  Like including literally refusing to test people in their worst areas, so that they won’t show up as needing help in that area.

But fortunately #ActuallyDD is for people who are DD in general, not just according to what their particular state would qualify them as.
