patternsmaybe:

I know a few very rural people who do use hunting to supplement their family’s food supply and cases like that guns are important.

also for a lot of people, knowing they could if they needed to is important

My parents live in an extremely rural area.  Guns are vital there for protecting yourself, your land, and your animals against wildlife, even just to scare off the wildlife when you’re not planning to actually shoot them.  You don’t want to be without a gun there.  I don’t think a lot of suburban and city people understand the reality of living in rural areas and the many reasons you need a gun in those situations.

But then given that a lot of suburban and urban people consider rural people to be too stupid to know what’s good for them, I’m not surprised they don’t listen about the realities of rural gun ownership.
