➸ I hope I can buy chewing gum with my EBT card.
Because it’s becoming seriously, seriously important medically. The steroids have raised my appetite to the point that if I don’t chew gum, I try to eat things. And my stomach is too paralyzed to let me eat things without them spilling over into my lungs and trying to kill me. So gum is rapidly…
Are you sure 1200 calories is still enough food now that you’re able to be active? Worried that maybe you’re hungry because you need food.
Yeah, what patternsmaybe said. 1200 calories is a normal person’s very strict weight loss diet. Not a doctor or anything, just have read up on fat politics and nutrition. Off the top of my head, I think it could even be below your BMR, theoretically, if you had an average metabolism. But 1. You probably don’t, and 2. Don’t trust random Internet people’s dietary advice.
My food only goes up to 1500 calories a day, total. And that would be if I had it on 24 hours a day. I like to give myself a few hours break. The only way to get the full 1500 would be if I either stopped giving my digestive system a break and ate continuously 24 hours a day, or if I was able to raise the rate that my food came in (which usually makes me feel sick).
I seem to be maintaining a stable weight, though, so I’m not losing weight or anything at the moment, which is a good sign. They basically told me to make sure I’m neither gaining nor losing weight and that would be the amount of calories I need.
Unfortunately I can’t consult a nutritionist, which otherwise I might do. Last time I consulted a nutritionist they tried to make me pay $270 out of pocket for the appointment. Because apparently getting a feeding tube isn’t enough reason to see a nutritionist. I would have had to have diabetes or renal failure for it to be covered. The insertion of a GJ tube related to stomach paralysis apparently doesn’t cut it for reasons to see a nutritionist.
