Beyond Tokenism – a video by a self-advocate with a developmental disability, about how to include self-advocates on boards for real, rather than just putting us there to make a show of “including” us without actually giving us any power.  I’ve been in situations like that and they’re horrible.

(Also note that there’s a reason I’m always complaining about the constant use of buzzwords and jargon in advocacy contexts, and it’s not that I just want to complain.  I counted three or four times he separately brought that up in this video, because it’s a big deal for anyone with even slight problems with language comprehension.  In fact, inaccessible language, and people going too fast, are the two biggest things I’ve seen people in the DD self-advocacy movement complain about most when it comes to being excluded in advocacy situations.  So it’s not like I’m pulling that out of my ass every time I complain about it.)
