Another thing that’s not the same as being able to speak

soilrockslove:

chavisory:

Being able to get other people to notice or acknowledge that you are.

Anyone else have that happen?  Where you start saying something, and everyone else around you literally keeps acting like you’re not?

Yes.  Like no one seems to notice?  Yeah that happens a lot.

Also that thing where people don’t notice I’m there, even though I’ve talked previously in the conversation.

And being able to speak is not the same thing as always being understood.

I have a friend who is, on the surface, extremely verbal.  She talks loudly and at length and in fact rarely shuts up.  She has some pretty severe language problems but she masks them under constant chatter.

And I’ve seen people talk as if she’s not talking.  Not even ignore her.  But literally not seem to notice that she’s talking to them.  I’ve sometimes had to interrupt them and say “Hey, she’s talking to you.”  And then they get flustered.

YES! In college classes I had this happen constantly. Even seminars with 10 people.
