transponderer asked: Hey, so, sorry, I don't want to be a bother, but your reblog conversation recently with patternsmaybe made me want to ask if you had any advice for trying to find and connect with any existing local DD community? I recently had to drop out of college and move back with my Dad and aside from a couple people online, I'm sort of really isolated and you made that sort of offline community sound like a thing that would be a really good thing for me.

Every offline DD community is different, because people are people and… yeah.  Some of them are great, some of them are awful.  But if you look for events locally, like self-advocacy conferences, self-advocacy groups, social groups for developmentally disabled adults, etc.  Sometimes disabled students’ groups at colleges will have some people with developmental disabilities, but that depends on the college (I went to one that had a very high proportion of DD people because of its excellent program for people with learning disabilities).
