thingsofthewild:

Sand cats are the only felids that inhabit desert habitats, and their numbers used to be present in the deserts of northern Africa and southwest and central Asia. The species has been extinct in Israel since the 1990s, but the Zoological Center of Tel Aviv has been working with a European breeding program in the hopes of restoring wild populations.

One success occurred in 2012 with Rotem, a female sand cat who gave birth to four kittens (as pictured above).
