Slytherin tag, explain to me what being a Slytherin is all about? People say the primary traits are cunning and ambition, but I don’t know if I see those things in myself. I thought for certain I’d get Hufflepuff. I actually took a test based on the one on Pottermore and got…

Yeah, oddly enough one of the best examples of Slytherin I know IRL is Nikki, who is one of my cats. She *is* ambitious and can be cunning, I guess, but the most Slytherin thing about her isn’t either of those. It’s more…I don’t know, a type of ruthlessness about seeing things as they are. She’s the kind of cat who you can just TELL can see right through any pretenses you might have. And she always, always has a reason for what she does. And if she were human she’d probably be one of those people who would be considered “good but not ‘nice’”.

YES “good but not nice” sums up a lot of Slytherins.

Although some Slytherins are nice.

I think I have a Slytherin staff person who has some of the more usual traits – ambition, etc.  She’s a med student and I’ve actually told her “Hold onto your ambition, and hold onto your arrogance, at least until you graduate, because those things are going to get you through what is going to be one of the hardest things in your life.”  I think ambition and arrogance are treated as really really bad things in women, when they actually have their place.  I think she thinks it’s funny that I openly call her arrogant and tell her not to lose that yet.
