“There are points at which I disagree with Hingsburger, though I’ve learned that those points change with time. His work has held up to multiple readings at different points on my own journey, and it continues to challenge me when I pick it up.”
—Cal Montgomery, reviewing books by Dave Hingsburger
patternsmaybe I thought of this quote when I read that you didn’t know what to think when you realized how much of what he does, he thinks of as behavioral therapy. I’ve found that the more I read him, the more I don’t know what to think about what, but the more I learn either way. There’s depth and room for learning even in the worst of his unadmitted mistakes. And you never know quite where the mistakes are, no matter how many times you read, because he writes about life as messy. Not that I’m saying this absolves him of all he’s done wrong. It just means that I’ve never found anything I’ve read from him worthless, even the stuff I disagree with the most.
