like, if a fellow disabled person doesn’t want me to use certain words around them, because they are triggered or just because they personally believe those words offensive, i will honor their request to the best of my ability. (i mean, people do this for me. i’ve had to ask friends not to call me ‘dear’ a few times, and thank god they’ve understood.)

but if a fellow disabled person refuses to accept the variety of opinions and perspectives and beliefs regarding ‘ableist language’ within our community — refuses to listen to alternate views, or even to acknowledge that they exist — then i cannot abide that person. they are not being inclusive and they are, in all likelihood, shutting many ID/DD people out of the conversation.
