people use “they” as a singular casually all the fucking time and then pretend they never have once someone says that’s how they want to be referred to and it blows my fucking mind

BTW singular ‘they’ is my default pronoun pretty much any time I don’t know what someone’s pronouns are.  It seems like the least offensive option, since it’s not just a “this is my personal pronouns” pronoun but also a stand-in pronoun for when you don’t know.
