Ugh, no, it’s not ‘reacting positively’ to it that’s the problem, it’s thinking that just because someone’s affectedly bubbly and has cognitive issues that you can treat them like a pet instead of a person

Yeah. This is a thing that happens. It has happened to me before. It’s no more the fault of the “pet”-ified person than the fault of someone with Stockholm Syndrome.
