It’s interesting that whenever I talk about… certain kinds of ethical issues…
People assume that I’m coming from the position of a whiny privileged person who can’t stand not being centered in every conversation.
When what I’m really talking about is… activist communities that I’m involved in, and how we treat people, and how I think we should treat people.
I don’t stop being disabled when I think that some things are cruel.
I notice the same thing. And it really bothers me. It’s not just the assumption. It’s the fact that once they cast you in the role of whiny privileged person, other people will see you that way and ignore what you have to say. It’s insidious and a little scary. I don’t know if it’s always intentional, but you can bet it sometimes is.
