I also think that this confusion about what communities are helps create some of the issues we see in LGBT/Queer communities.  Because if you have to be the same as other people in order to care about or ally with eachother - then you are stuck in the horrible position of either

1. Policing your sexuality/gender to fit other people’s

2. Policing the shit out of other people’s sexuality/gender until it fits yours

3. Giving up on having a community with them, which can be heartbreaking when you are already isolated and shunned by the rest of society.

(But I don’t think it automatically has to be this way.)
