hating people who appear to have it better in some way does *not* serve the cause of justice

but it’s okay to hate your oppressors. why would you come at oppressed ppl hating their oppressors, instead of the oppressors giving us a reason to hate them. hmmm.

Why do you assume OP doesn’t spend plenty of time—much more than this one short post—blogging about oppression? (they do).

Occasionally criticising the way certain people conduct their activism doesn’t render all your own activism invalid. It is important to check yourself and your comrades because not everything done in the name of a good cause actually helps that cause.

The difference between anger and hate is important here; also the difference between hating actions and privilege and the behaviour of a class as a whole, and extending hate towards individuals.

In some cases the latter can make communities very difficult. I’ve been very uncomfortable lately with the way some neurodivergent people will throw other neurodivergent people under the bus because they’re supposedly too passing or have it too easy, and then others will fight back by saying that actually they have it worse, and it turns into a contest about who has it worse and therefore who’s allowed to speak. And while all this is going on, abled society just doesn’t give a fuck. Punching sideways is seriously shit.

And I mean, you can assume the worst about someone by interpreting their post in the worst way and not bothering to contextualise what they say, but that’s not actually helpful either. It’s the same problem OP was referring to; jumping to conclusions about someone being privileged and on the side of the privileged group, without bothering to contextualise and consider what they’re saying and where they’re actually coming from. And consequently we get people hating each other who shouldn’t necessarily be enemies at all but who should be fighting on the same side.

I actually disagree with OP on a few things; for one thing I probably am less pacifist than them but like….when your first instinct is to jump to the conclusion that someone is privileged (when they’re actually in the same boat as you) and hate them on that basis, that kind of punching sideways is going to weaken the community and make it unsafe.

OP was, iirc, blogging about discovering that they had strong negative feelings about people with a different kind of autism than they do and pointing out that that’s screwed up because the people with a different kind of autism are not privileged even if they have it better it some ways. It is not even about hating oppressors gosh.

Partly that. Partly the way some people viciously attack youneedacat whenever they talk about their gender identity or gendered experiences.

Partly some other things.
