Trust me, there is no way to medicate someone out of having abusive parents.

Yeah.  The only way medication can have a benefit in that situation is if you voluntarily choose to take it on your own terms, if it helps you deal with all the damage they left behind in your head.  And even that’s more like a way of wrapping a bandage around yourself to keep yourself from bleeding to death, and when the worst of it is past, dealing with the actual wound itself is way more complex and requires a lot of different strategies, some of which it’s almost impossible to find in the psych system at all.  Or at least that’s how it’s worked for us.

(There are definitely abusive parents who will try to medicate you into shutting up about abuse or not fighting it, though.)
