Anonymous asked: I feel a similar way about my dermatographism (an allergic reaction where my skin gets welts when it's touched roughly) as you do about your facial hair, I think. I don't experience abuse because of it, but people ask me not to scratch itches or not to sit in certain ways because it makes my skin red and swollen. And I feel very defensive about it because it's part of me and what I look like. I mean it's not exactly the same but I identify with your post about facial hair

That works sort of like cold urticaria, right?  I used to have cold urticaria, where you get welts and hives and redness and itchiness from anything cold (including cold air) touching your skin.  I heard about dermatographism when I was researching cold urticaria, but it was a long time ago.  (In my case it only lasted a couple years.)  I can see how it would end up feeling like part of you, and not something you should have to hide, and I’d be really annoyed if people had started trying to get me to look more “normal” when I had cold urticaria.
