fullyarticulatedgoldskeleton asked: Psychotic people are more at risk for abuse at psych wards, anyway. Because people are more likely to interpret our behavior as dangerous and alarming, and more likely to respond with force. I don't recommend it at all.

Yeah exactly.  That’s what I saw when I was in them.

A friend of mine tells me that she was in a psych ward where everyone was diagnosed with schizophrenia but only one person seemed to actually have it – that person was murdered by staff in the quiet room because they saw her as uncontrollable and vented their rage about that on her in deadly ways.  (My friend still has scars from beatings in the same quiet room, they basically drugged her so she couldn’t sit up for three days and then beat the shit out of her.)  They hated the one person who actually had psychosis, worse than they hated any other patient there.

And my observations in psych wards bear that out as well.  Even when people’s behavior couldn’t possibly be seen as dangerous, it was seen as out of the staff’s control and therefore a threat to their authority and therefore in need of being treated like shit.

Ok, here’s the thing. Psych wards at hospitals will often discharge patients earlier than necessary if they deem them...
