you know what kind of bugs me

why does fantasy!oppression always seem to be a direct allegory for a specific form of real world oppression

why write species tensions as a thinly veiled representation of racial tensions with humans being the only species that seems to have racial groups, if the elves are so uniformly looking down their noses at us shouldn’t they have their own intraspecies issues too

why write werewolves as a HIV metaphor when you can write a narrative that deals with both lycantrophy and AIDS and address the fact that even if the marginalization of infected parties functions superficially similar there is a big difference between invisibly losing your ability to fight disease and very visibly turning into a ravening beast once a month and both are awful and oh my god what if someone had both

why write something that avoids engaging with real world issues if you’re just going to put cookie cutter fantasy world issues in
